Since we weren't able to do all the things we wanted before Christmas, we decided to fit some more fun in this past week.
I really wanted to take the kids to Seattle Center to see the train display and go ice skating. I hadn't been ice skating in probably 15 years. I guess it's like riding a bike, though, once you learn you don't forget. I was excited to get Ryan and Kendall up on skates, too. The rink had walkers they could push to help them balance so on our first lap around the rink we used that. Since David had to sit on the sidelines with Natalie, it was a huge help in getting Ryan and Kendall around. We got rid of Kendall after the first lap. She hated it. I took Ryan on a couple more laps, and then he was done too. I was so disappointed that they didn't like it, but took the opportunity to skate on my own.
After we mentioned to Ryan that he would have to learn to skate to keep up with his cousins from Minnesota he was back on the ice in a flash. He's so competitive, that kid. He decided that using the walker was not his thing, and insisted he just hold my hand. Things went much better and he started loving it. We skated for awhile, and then he said to me: "I'm keeping up with my cousins, now". He's so funny.
I got Kendall out again, too, just holding her hands. She liked it much better that way, too. I was so happy the liked it after all!
Ryan begged and begged for me to take him skating again on Friday but couldn't since I had to work. I did find a rink that had open skating today so he and I went. The two of us skated for about an hour. He loved it, and did so great. I was so amazed at how well he did for his second try at ice skating. We are definitely going to try to make it skating more often. We both had such a good time.

Sitting
Natalie is now strong enough to sit up. This is such a relief to David and I. It gives us a few extra minutes to do something without carrying her around. She'll sit much longer on the floor and play than she'll lay on the floor. She flips to her tummy the instant we lie her down, and she hates to be on her tummy. Then she starts screaming, and it's deafening. We let her scream to see if she'll figure out to flip onto her back again, but she hasn't figured it out. She is starting to scoot to get what she wants, and that helps too.

Role Playing
Kendall has been into role playing. It's fun to see her imagination taking off!

My Purple Pair
Kendall and Ryan were dressed in purple for the Husky game yesterday. The ended up losing a shoot out 67-56.
Ryan even decorated our chair with purple and gold beads.
And our friend Kassi stopped by. She's living in LA and was up for the holiday so popped in to say hello! It was great to see her.

Pulleys
Ryan created this awesome pulley system in the kitchen yesterday. David didn't think it was so cool when he had to remove it! He used a long chain of gold beads and strung them through the door handles.
Splish Splash
As I've mentioned before, Natalie loves bath time. She is starting to roll over in the tub which is still a bit scary. She doesn't quite have it down yet so if she doesn't make the roll she falls back hard and usually hits her head. But she loves to be in the tub and is so content just kicking those chubby thighs, and chewing on toys.
Snuggle Time
This is how Natalie and I have been spending most of our evenings this past week. She goes down for bed around 7, but is up by 9 then 11 then 2 then 5. She generally eats only one time so it must be those teeth bothering her. I do love snuggling with her.
Her Reflection
Kendall loves talking to herself in the mirror. I can never make out what she's saying, but it's adorable to listen and watch her. Here is a picture of her in action!
Ryan and Natalie
| Ryan wanted to see if he could pick Natalie up, and he did! |
Ryan has stepped us his role of big brother lately. He has started expressing interest in feeding Natalie, so we've been letting him help out. He is also so good to entertain her if I can't get to her right away. This comes in super handy when I'm trying to get dinner ready while flying solo. They have formed quite the bond. She absolutely lights up when she sees him, and vice versa. Anytime she hears his voice so looks to see what he's up to. The smile she gives him is priceless.
Dance Party: Charlie Brown Style
The kids have been obsessed with the Charlie Brown Christmas Special this year. They love the music and will choose to watch the show anytime they have a chance. Kendall has practically memorized it. She chimes in on her favorite parts. They both LOVE when Snoopy says, "BLAH" and sticks his tongue out. Believe me, it gets quite a reaction!
We've been playing a lot of the soundtrack at home. Kendall kicked off the dance party the other night. David and I just laughed as we watched them and their crazy dance moves - just like the characters in the show.
Cashing In
The Seahawks played so well when we went to the game in early December that our game tickets got us lots of freebies. The week after the game we cashed in on some of them. Our first stop was at Top Pot donuts for free coffee. Of course, it was just a good excuse to get one of their amazing donuts.
The next stop was for David and Ryan - free haircuts. They both needed one, so it was perfect. However, after their return home we realized that nothing is really "free". Everything has a price. In this case, it was bad haircuts. Ryan came home with a "Bieber" do. As in Justin Bieber. Not really appropriate for a 5 year old. It really wasn't that bad after I brushed the hair back a bit, but David's wasn't reparable. We just prayed it grew fast, which it usually does so it didn't look awful for too long!
What's Up Doc?
Natalie has been teething for quite some time, and got herself a Christmas tooth! The first tooth popped through on Christmas day. The second one isn't far behind, so her days are filled chewing on everything and anything possible.

Christmas 2011
We had a wonderful Christmas weekend with the Boehm Family in Castle Rock. Ryan and Kendall went down on Thursday with Grandpa Bill, and David, Natalie and I joined everyone on Saturday morning. Michael and Jenn made the trip over from Idaho on Friday, which we are always very thankful for. We all had a great time playing baseball in the beautiful weather, eating delicious food and playing games. Merry Christmas!

Minnesota Love
| They can hardly contain their excitement. |
One of the good things about living far away is that packages arrive on our doorstep during the holidays filled with love from Minnesota. Last weekend 2 big packages arrived. The kids were so excited, and since the Baumann clan was digging in at the cabin we decided to do the same.
Our boxes were filled with shirts, ornaments, books, games and many more memories from Minnesota.
