Twas Two Days After Christmas...

Twas two days after Christmas,
When all through the house
Neither child was moving,
A toy through the house;

Exhaustion had set in from days of such fun,
That began when Uncle Michael had finally come.
The trip to Castle Rock with Aunt Jenn went like a breeze,
And David joined us later on Christmas Eve;

With Ryan in his jersey, and Kendall with her nuk,
We all settled in by the tree with lots of ornament hooks.
When all through the house there arose such laughter,
Uncle Michael and Ryan kept running faster and faster.

Away to the rocker we all snuggled Kendall,
Eating turkey and potatoes until our bellies were full.

Grandma's donkeys were fed little carrots by Ryan,
And pinching Kendall would not even get her crying.
Though there was not two feet of fresh snow,
There was crisp and cool air, and the moon was a glow.

With a three year old boy so lively and quick,
It was time to leave an apple for Rudolph and cookies for St. Nick.
More fun was had the children did sleep,
And we talked and we laughed and ate gluten-free!

Now, Ryan! Now, Kendall!
now, Michael! and Jenn!
On, Katy! on David! on, Grandparents Bill and Karen!
To the top of the stocking! To the top of the tree!
The gifts were stacked as high as can be!

As light began to fill the Christmas Day sky,
Grandma Karen made rolls that rose really high.
So up woke the boy, the excitement was clear,
Auntie Melanie still in Seattle, was not even near.

And before the fun could begin, Uncle Michael must rise,
The giggling up the stairs he and Ryan did climb.
As they drew to the top of the stairs with a bound,
The blue remote control car left by Santa was finally found.

The first drive of the car found the stairs with a fall,
And Kendall loved up her new baby doll.
A bundle of toys fill the stockings full to the top,
And Ryan helped everyone unload with a hop!

Ryan's eyes how they twinkle! His red hair, oh, it's something!
Kendall's cheeks are like roses, she's as cute as a button!
Their personalities are as sweet as fresh cut flowers,
And how lucky we are to call them ours.

Melanie arrived at eleven fifteen,
And helped make onion dip that made us all scream!
We snacked and we nibbled ourselves a little thinner,
Our sights on the prime rib David was making for dinner.

We spent the afternoon unwrapping gifts galore,
The bows and the paper thrown all over the floor.
The art box from Mel was the first gift Ryan unwrapped,
The other gifts could have just as well stayed in their sacks.

From the vest to the booties, the gloves and the frame,
We all opened gifts we loved just the same.
The new pedometers were programmed and attached to our hips,
The race was on to see who could take the most steps.

The packages were all opened, the kids were both napping,
It was time for walking and old movie watching.
It was Kendall and Jenn's first Christmases with us,
And the love that we feel makes us all want to bust!

I hope as much fun is had in the upcoming year,
Happy 7th Anniversary, My Sweet Dear!

Love,
Katy

The Best Baby Ever

Sweet Baby Kendall is 3 months old. She really is the best baby ever. And I thank God every day for that! I know I wouldn't be able to handle another child like her brother (a.k.a. The Negotiator).

A day in the life of Kendall goes something like this. She wakes up so smiley after sleeping approximately 9 hours...sometimes it's 8, and sometimes it's 10. Yes, seriously. And she wakes up so happy. This always amazes me. Shouldn't she wake up screaming because she's starving? That little belly hasn't had food for so long. She eats, then smiles and talks to me. After about an hour she's ready for a short nap. She's pretty alert most of the morning, then take a long nap in the afternoon. She eats a ton in the evenings, then goes to bed at 9:30.

The only reasons she cries is because she has to burp, has a dirty diaper, is tired or is cold. She is so easy to figure out. I love it. When she does cry, it is very loud...and her lower lip comes out. So adorable!!

Her smiles are the most precious thing, and she looks like a little angel when she sleeps. We are so blessed. I can't say that enough.

Ice Skating Adventure

Ryan and Auntie Jenn were using their imaginations and came up with a skating game. I'm not sure how it all came about, but Ryan soon had everyone in the house ice skating. He even put the ice skates on everyone. I shot a little video to show the adventure (it's not great so I apologize for that!). I love how his imagination is coming to life! It's so fun to see what he comes up with.

Decorating that perfect tree!

We decorated the tree a few weeks ago...or maybe it was just a week ago...who knows...I lose track of the days so easily right now!

We turned the Christmas tunes on and started unpacking the ornaments. David and I were so excited to decorate it with Ryan this year. We really believed he would love it, but he lost interest after about the 5th ornament. Oh, well. I had fun! I love decorating the tree, as long as I don't have to do the lights! I have so many ornaments that bring back special memories, or remind me of people. I don't know how I can remember who I got them from year after year, but I do. I love reminiscing as I listen to Christmas music. My favorite ornament is still my Fozzie Bear. I have had this ornament for as long as I can remember...and still love it.

Ryan's favorite ornament this year is Lighting McQueen (surprise, surprise). It was the only ornament he really got excited about! At least there was one...

Stroller Lights!

Finding the perfect tree...2009

We went in search of the perfect Christmas tree at Christmas Creek Tree Farm in North Bend. Uncle Michael was visiting from Idaho, so came along with us. It was a cold morning, but we had fun! Ryan and Michael chased each other through the trees while David went in search of the perfect tree. This usually takes quite some time! We did end up with a beautiful tree. While David and Michael tied the tree to the van, Ryan, Kendall and I went inside to warm up. Once inside, we found out that Santa would be there soon! Ryan was one lucky boy to be first in line to see Santa (again). He was a little shy to go see him, but eventually did and once again asked him to bring him a blue remote control car. Hopefully Santa has got it straight and won't forget!

Holiday Adventure

Ryan checking out the train display at Macy's

Happy girl!

We made our annual holiday adventure downtown the first week in December. We stay in a hotel a few nights, visit Santa, explore downtown and take in the holiday atmosphere. This year was anything but festive and relaxing! Ryan was a royal stinker the entire time we were there. He spent most of the time not listening and bouncing off the walls. If he wasn't doing one of those, he was lying on the floor of Macy's kicking and screaming! Not our idea of fun. He did sit on Santa's lap without pitching a fit and asked very nicely that Santa bring him a blue remote control car and Kendall a doll. The entire adventure wasn't a complete bust, there were some enjoyable moments...but it definitely could have been a little more relaxing!!

Many Blessings...

Kendall with Great Grandma Hilda

It's way past Thanksgiving, but I thought I should jot down our turkey day festivities. We celebrated "Turkey Day" with David's family in Castle Rock a day early due to David's work schedule. David and I (and Kendall) left for Portland first thing in the morning to visit our dear friend Shari. We were very thankful Karen allowed us to go, as she stayed back to slave over a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner. We had a great visit with Shari, and returned just in time for dinner! We were greeted by David's Grandma Hilda, Aunt Dyane, Uncle Marv and Karen's good friend Louise. Ryan was acting crazy, so we got him down for a nap right away...and he missed Thanksgiving dinner (I'd much rather have a happy kid!). It was a fun day, and we are so thankful to have such wonderful friends and family.

Smiley Girl!

Kendall is such a happy little girl! Today she discovered Ryan's deflating birthday balloons on the ceiling. The smiles they brought to her face were priceless.

'Tis the Season

We have started our evening walks in search of Christmas lights. Ryan loves to lead the way as he spots lights. He decided to wear his blinking antlers tonight, and then decided during our walk that he needs lights on his stroller. Our search has begun for battery operated Christmas lights!

Manic Monday

Tomorrow is the day I've been dreading all day. Inventory Monday. When David has to work early, and I have to get the 2 kids and myself ready and out the door by 8:45. I hate that I've been stressing about it all day. I've wasted a perfectly good day stressing about tomorrow. How silly is that? For most people it sounds like a piece of cake, but I'm still adjusting to having 2 little ones to feed and dress under a time constraint. One I can do blindfolded, but 2 is a different story. It's amazing how one person seems to create 1o x the work. I plan ahead, but for some reason I can never get us out the door on time. There always seems to be one little hang up that keeps us from reaching our goal. Last time I laid out the wrong shirt for Ryan causing a tantrum beyond belief. I have his favorite shirt waiting for him tomorrow. I'm going to say a little prayer that everything goes smoothly in the morning, and will try to smile when it doesn't!

Kendall @ 2 months

I'm still trying to figure out how it is possible that Kendall is already 2 months old. It seems like we were just bringing her home yesterday. She is still the sweetest baby, and we feel so blessed she is part of our family. Ryan seems to have gotten used to her being around, and puts on a good act when someone comes to visit! He ignores her most of the time, but is so sweet to her when anyone is visiting (very funny).

Kendall had her 2 month check up on Thursday. The nurse had David and I guess her weight. We both guessed she was over 12 pounds, but she only weighed in at 10 pounds, 9 ounces...so she's still a little peanut - thank goodness. It seems like she is growing way too fast, and time is moving way too quickly.

She found her hand the other day, and I enjoy watching her check it out so much! It was the cutest thing. She loves to look at her Carebear (thanks Emma and Evie!) when she's getting her diaper changed. And she greats us will a big smile and a coo most mornings! She is so precious. Another one of her favorite things is taking a bath with Ryan. She just loves him to pieces...but he won't ever let her get too close...unless they are in the bath. She smiles and coos at him the entire time they are in the tub.

Auntie Gina comes to Seattle!

My sister Gina visited us last week from Minnesota. She left her three kids at home to spend a long weekend with us. It was a great break for her, and an even better weekend for us! She was such great help with the kids. She's an early childhood educator and has a son just like Ryan, so was so helpful with suggestions on how to deal with him!! All the tips are working magically this week!

She had never been to Palisade (where David works) so we enjoyed a fun evening there. Ryan did awesome, and Kendall didn't make a peep! She set up a little photo shoot of Kendall, which was a blast. She got some great pictures of her. The rest of the weekend we laid low and just enjoyed catching up and reminiscing about high school. Good times!

Ryan's Reading Nook

I saw this cool idea in a magazine about transforming a corner of your house. One of the suggestions was a reading nook. We were struggling with what to get Ryan for his birthday, since he already has so many toys, so we decided to create a reading nook for him. He loves to sit and read his books, so we knew he'd love it. We got a new bookshelf and added his artwork to the walls. He loves his very own corner of the world!

Ryan's "hot rod" car

Ryan's Party (x2)

Ryan has such a fun birthday!

Grandma Karen, Grandpa Bill and Melanie came over Tuesday night to celebrate. He was spoiled rotten with balloons, gifts, and attention. It was such a fun evening.

Grandpa Bill spotted a fancy pedal car in a New Orleans shop window when he was there this summer. He called Karen right away and she located a place to get one. It is the cutest thing...and even has a personalized license plate (adorable)! Ryan loves to drive it, but still hasn't figured out how to pedal and steer at the same time. He'll get there!

On Wednesday, Ryan's friends Eliza and Charlie (and families) joined us for a playdate. The kiddos had a such fun playing (and demolishing my house!). It was fun to see Ryan interacting with his buddies.

It's still hard to believe the little guy is 3, even though he acts like he's 13 half the time!!

Happy Birthday, Ryan!

Dear Ryan,

You are 3 years old today. I can't believe 3 years have already passed. You bring so much joy to me and your Daddy! You have such a fun personality. You love to laugh and giggle. We've loved watching your personality expand over the past year. You've become such a social little guy. You love going to your Co-op Preschool and playing with your friends. I am always amazed at how you remember every persons name. You also started going to Char's Place this year. You've made so many good friends there as well.

Your vocabulary has expanded tenfold this past year. You've even started talking with your hands! Sometimes we wish you wouldn't talk so much. We have to be careful of what we say, because you repeat everything!

You have become very hesitant to try new things. I've learned that I just need to push you. Once we get you to do something new, you always love it. When we were in Minnesota in July, you would not go for a boat ride, or a kayak ride, or even swim in the lake. I finally just forced you to try all of them and you loved them all! You are such a creature of habit.

You've grown up so much this year. You've become a big brother! We love watching you interact with your sister. You were a little scared of her at first, but now you love her to pieces and are very concerned when she cries. I'm so excited to see how your relationship grows. You started spending weekends with Grandma Karen and Grandpa Bill. You have so much fun, and we are so proud that you can do that on your own.

You're very athletic. You love to play baseball, football and soccer...and just run! I love to watch you whack the baseball off the tee. It's quite impressive, actually. You bat left handed and you throw with your left hand, too.

You are such a nice little boy (most of the time!). Here are a few of the things I love about you most:

- Your night time/goodbye routine: big hug, kiss, butterflies and noses. You've done this for a few years, and I'm so glad you still have to do it.

- The way you park your cars. You have always been very particular how they are parked. They all have a specific place, and you can't stop until they have all been parked.

-The way you sing songs to yourself and have started talking to yourself when you play. Your imagination is coming alive.

- The relationship you have with your Daddy. You two are quite the pair. I love watching you play and laugh together. Your new favorite activity is to go outside after dinner and watching the jets fly overhead. You two are always up to something!

- I love that you will still snuggle with me (but only when your Dad is not around!).

- Books! You love to read books. You love when we read to you, and you will spend hours reading them yourself.

- I love that you are such a happy kid and love to have fun!

I love you, Buddy! I'm so glad I get to be your Mommy!!

Happy 3rd Birthday!!

Trick or Treat

Ryan and Eliza.

The Chicken.

We had a great Halloween. We spent the morning carving pumpkins with David, then went to Eliza's house (Ryan's buddy). Ryan was very skeptical of anything Halloween from the beginning. He didn't want to carve pumpkins, didn't want to put on the costume and everything else was "too scary". It's kind of how the day went, but we pushed him through. When it came time to put on his costume and he wouldn't because it was "too scary", we bribed him. At first he didn't fall for it, but after David and I threatened to eat his M&M's he bit and put his costume on right away.

We got to Eliza's house (without David who had to work) and he wouldn't walk through the gate. He plays with Eliza weekly, so has been to her house before. The two Halloween signs out front were new, so he became cautious of the change. After we got past that and finally got the gate open, Monica appeared as a witch with a green face and wig! Ryan about crawled out of his skin he was so scared. He hid his head for 15 minutes, and would not look at anyone but me. Poor kid. He typically adores Monica! Eliza coaxed him into the house to play and then he started to warm up a little. He was still pretty cautious of Monica the entire night, though.

Monica and Jesse set up hot cider and roasted marshmallows for everyone to nibble on while we waited to trick or treat!. Ryan wouldn't put his costume on for me again, so I bribed him with a marshmallow. Worked like a charm! As soon as the marshmallow was done, he wanted that costume off.

Jesse was just leaving to take the girls trick or treating so I told Ryan I was going too. He didn't like this and wanted to "go to his house" instead. I refused to give in, and told him we were going to go trick or treating with Eliza. I practically dragged him to the first house, and by the third house he was the first kid to the door. He had so much fun running from house to house with the girls and was so pround of all the "trick or treats" in his bucket!!

It was a great way to spend the evening! Next year, we look forward to David being able to join us.

Hands on Farm - field trip

Ryan proudly showing off his tiger pumpkin!

Last Wednesday Ryan, Kendall and I went to the Fairbank Hands on Farm in Edmonds. What a great place! We met Char, Ryan's day care provider, at the Farm and began our tour. We got to see geese (my favorite), chickens, turkey, peacocks, miniature horses, and baby pigs (so adorable!). They kids even got to pick out their own little pumpkins. Ryan picked out a "tiger" pumpkin and was so proud of it!

It was a great adventure, and we are so thankful Char plans such fun outings for us!!

Carving Pumpkins

It was pumpkin carving morning! Here are how the festivities went...Kendall was more interested in napping than helping.

Ryan made a huge deal about getting his hands dirty. He did help pull the stem out, but then...

...decided that eating a doughnut was much more fun!

After bribing Ryan with M&M's he finally put his chicken costume on to pose for pictures! Here are the 3 Muskateers making their very best "surprised" faces.

And Mommy got to sit in on a few pictures, too!
